2019

This fall, we asked what it means to be a fan. What are you obsessed with? Who do you aspire to be like? What does loyalty mean to you?

Fandom is commitment. It’s personal and it’s collective. Fandom is also subservience. We become secondary to what we’re fans of, whether we want to be or not. Fandom is humanity speaking to, controlling, loving itself.

Our contributors explored subcultures, obsessions, strangers, and nature. We’re their biggest fans, and maybe you are too.

Welcome to our fall issue.

We're big fans.

FALL

I glance past the glassy front doors in time to witness the next bus, pulling up in front of the Museum.

When I write to you, I only really write to myself.

Get to know 5 common and native Minneapolis trees.

I was a fan of having five other people in a car that fit four comfortably and five legally.

I never know what's going on, but I can't help but cheer.

Nessie wears eyeliner, she's just like us.

I know you & you love little things.

Fruit, you lay me out bare.

Like what you see here?

Get in touch with The Pool team if you have pitches, feedback or are otherwise interested in getting involved. We can't wait to collaborate with you!
