THURSDAYS ARE FOR TRASH
Jamie Gallegos

thursdays are for trash
collection—a miracle how it comes
a surprise that it came
grass in the yard, i want to watch
but it grows as quick
as the hair
you wait to cut
sunbathe at night
with dollar bill sunglasses
pull a comb through my mind
As what i believe
is tangled with what i know
those twenty-five knots of cannon
fridays i get ready for hella long
ex cathedra skin taute, i draw the lines straight
but, “straight compared to what?”
invert all noses, erase all waists
but stretch the minutes
so they fill in the blanks
in the H - E - B, trade in green
for the right shade of red
called "you're worth it"
hilariously, we think with the anticipated impact
of the ones who might (click) love you
I push shopping carts
In steamy parking
lots, a hundred million trips
how many freckles on my arms
and fresh cartons of milk
do i spend
waiting for myself to arrive?
